Harnessing the Power of the Master Mediator

with Lee Jay Berman & Doug Noll

Harnessing the Power of the Master Mediator is a course designed explicitly for mediators who have achieved a level of success and a respect for other mediation styles and applications, and who are prepared to move beyond the confines of evaluative and facilitative processes of mediation and make a difference with their work – both in the lives of participants in their mediations, and in themselves. This course is for those who are ready to move to the next level of awareness and consciousness, grounded in mutual respect and deeper connections with the participants.

This workshop is just what mediators need who feel like their work has hit a plateau. These are also the skills that mediators need to manage highly effective joint sessions. In this experiential workshop, we reach outside of classic mediation training and work with the tools that master mediators draw upon that allow them to function at a higher level. These skills include neuro science of the brain and how chemicals affect it, neuro-linguistic programming (NLP) to build rapport and understanding, the psychology of conflict and manipulation, raising your perceptual levels, heart-mind coherence, and even some light tai chi and subtle energy work to demonstrate the push, pull and twist of dialogue in conflict and negotiation and how to effectively manage the off-balance conversation.

The Master Mediator
By Lee Jay Berman (with a tremendous amount of attribution to David Deida)
"Step into the fullness of our being – intense, focused, powerful and clear,
and directly connected to our intuition.” - Dennis Mead-Shikaly
The Master Mediator isn’t a bully evaluator, posturing and banging heads together like a big-time wrestler, nor a spineless message carrier masquerading as a facilitator, succumbing to the moods of the participants, smiling and starry-eyed. He has embraced both his inner masculine and feminine, and he no longer holds onto either of them. She doesn’t need to be right all the time, nor does she need to be always safe, cooperative, sharing and liked. He simply lives from his deepest core, fearlessly giving his gifts, feeling through the fleeting moment into the openness of existence, totally committed to magnifying love and peace.
Some mediators are comfortable. In mediating, they want, or perhaps need, to operate from a place that is comfortable. Perhaps they rely on either their substantive knowledge, experience and influence or their people skills, charm and persuasiveness. They are happy with the effort they give, if they feel they gave their best. They're not interested in the artful nuances of the work or in personal growth. For these people, this course will be irrelevant, possibly even offensive.

It is time to evolve beyond the macho jerk ideal, all spine and no heart. It is also time to evolve beyond the sensitive, caring wimp ideal, all heart and no spine. Heart, spine, spirit and mind must be integrated into a single mediator, and then transgressed in the fullest embodiment of consciousness possible, which requires a deep realization of the infinite openness of the present moment. This takes a lot of inner work. It requires a new level of awareness and enlightenment, and a deeper level consciousness. It means learning on new levels. It means a whole new set of tools to incorporate fluidly. And it takes a new kind of courage.
What past participants have said:

“Such a strong program that every lawyer or other disciplined professional mediator must take this course to go to the next level of his or her craft.”
- Richard Millen, Esq.

"Truly was an advanced mediation training program and FAR more advanced than any other so-called "advanced" program I have ever attended. Remarkable content."
Richard T. Alexander, Duluth, GA

“Thank you for your generosity of heart, soul and expertise.  Also, your love and care for each of us in the class has been inspiring.  I learned to keep open to be most effective in serving people in conflict.  The techniques you shared opened my eyes to how I can be free of judgment, fear, anxiety, and childish behavior…”
- Marcia Haber, Los Angeles, CA

"These guys rock – they are not at the edge, they are creating the edge. The world of mediation is now forever changed, enhanced, deepened and richer than ever before. Ground breaking and highly impactful synthesis of mediation master principals with wisdom traditions and practices. Leading edge thinking that will transform you from mere technician to a 'Master Mediator'."
- Mark A. Thornton, Author of “Meditation in a New York Minute”, Los Angeles, CA

“Wonderfully enlightening program that enabled me to move and grow in a positive, conscious-provoking way! The program empowered me even more to use my own positive “energy” if you will to being about peace and understanding in a chaotic and oftentimes cruel/demonic environment. Thank you again-you make risk-taking so much easier.”
- Kelly Lazerson, Esq., Bakersfield, CA
