Even experienced mediators can find themselves searching for the right way to move a conversation forward when parties become entrenched, defensive, or unable to see beyond their own positions.
In this webinar reprise, Ken Cloke takes us through the shift from advocacy into artful, appreciative inquiry and explores one of the most powerful tools a mediator has: the right question. Through skillful questioning, mediators can uncover what has people stuck, loosen the grip of conflict, transform the way disputants interact, and turn criticisms and complaints into openings for improvement.
Most importantly, attendees will gain hundreds of questions they can use in real mediations to shift conversations, broaden perspectives, refocus priorities, engage the hearts of people in conflict, and move more deeply into what is actually driving a dispute. The program focuses on learning to mediate from a place of curiosity, compassion, and inquiry rather than judgment, advocacy, and control.
Through carefully designed questions, mediators can create the conditions for more open, honest, and vulnerable conversations where better answers, richer experiences, resolution, transformation, and even transcendence can unfold.

About the Trainer:
Ken Cloke is a world-recognized mediator, dialogue facilitator, conflict resolution systems designer, teacher, trainer, author, and public speaker. He is Director of the Center for Dispute Resolution in Santa Monica, which he founded in 1983, where he works as a mediator, arbitrator, facilitator, coach, consultant, and trainer specializing in communication, collaborative negotiation, dialogue facilitation, and the resolution of complex multi-party disputes. He co-founded Mediators Beyond Borders in 2006 and has taught and mediated in more than 25 countries.
Ken is the author of numerous books on mediation, dialogue, and conflict resolution, including The Magic in Mediation: A Search for Symmetries, Metaphors and Scale-Free Practices, Mediation in a Time of Crisis, Politics, Dialogue and the Evolution of Democracy, Mediating Dangerously, and Conflict Revolution. He is also co-author with Joan Goldsmith of several books, including Resolving Conflicts at Work and The Art of Waking People Up.
