Maximizing Mediation – Assisting Participants to be at their Best in Mediation

with Jim Melamed

"Maximizing Mediation is the hallmark aspect of mediation," suggests Jim Melamed, "along with decision-making control, that attracts participants to mediation." Empowerment carried to its logical extreme is “maximization.”

In this advanced course, we review, discuss and practice focused skills for empowering participants and maximizing mediation. We explore ethics surrounding empowerment and whether it is advisable in the current marketplace and in the context of the mediator's duty to be impartial. We also explore the implications of a maximizing model at the policy level.

Maximizing includes three primary aspects:

1.) Assisting participants to be at their individual best;

2.) Assisting groups of participants to most capably work together; and

3.) Assisting each participant in achieving the greatest available substantive satisfaction.

As an added bonus, Jim will coach mediators in integrating the internet into their mediation practices, both in delivering the best mediation product and in growing their mediation practices.

What people have said about his classes:

"When I woke up this morning, the first thing I wanted to do was to draft you a note to thank you for the exciting and stimulating seminar that you just conducted for all of us in Los Angeles. I have been mediating for a few years now and I believe your course has brought me to a new level of understanding. Most importantly, I wanted to communicate to you that it was your passion, enthusiasm, sense of humor and general good will (as well as knowledge) that made the seminar so meaningful. I know that everyone else in the class felt the same way." - Morton Gantman, J.D., Encino, CA

"This training is priceless for any psychologist engaged in, or wanting to engage in, neutral facilitation of disputes." - David Corey, Ph.D., Portland, OR

"This is one of the best programs I've ever attended. Jim's high energy makes him a highly effective trainer. The workshop is jam packed with valuable information." - Carl Sniffen, J.D., Medford, OR

"A valuable learning experience, packed with gems of insight and wisdom. Many immediate and practical applications." - Ryan Darwish, M.B.A., C.F.P., Eugene, OR

"A dynamic and exciting program in a great facility that focuses on both the theoretical and the practical. - Dennis Graves, C.P.A., Salem, OR

"This mediation training is definitely worth your time and the cost." - Bruce H. Anderson, J.D., Eugene, OR

"This was the "dream" training." - Oliver Ross, J.D., Phoenix, AZ

"Thanks for the excellent mediation training. It was the best professional training I have ever had. For that matter, it was probably the best educational experience I have ever had." - Gary Firestone, J.D., West Linn, OR

"In all my MCLE training, this program provided the most efficient use of time spent, for my present work and into the future." - John H. Hachmeister, J.D., Redondo Beach, CA
